My Europe Point Stand in Malta

Sep 8, 2024 | Activities with EP Candidates, Malta

As part of TDM 2000 Malta’s work to raise awareness about the upcoming European Parliament elections, a two-day event, named “My Europe Point”, was held at Mercury Towers coinciding with the days of the preparation and final performance of the flashmob organized as part of the “Changemakers for European Democracy” project – 8th and 9th May 2024. This also coincided with Europe Day which helped the organization in sharing their cause and the importance of the upcoming elections.

The main activities carried out by the changemakers on the stand included discussions with passers by and the opportunity to leave messages for candidates through a box left on the stand, as well as the distribution of informational materials. Special focus was given to first-time voters.

The organizers were surprised to find that although many people were not sure if or for whom they were going to vote, they were already well informed about the candidates and what the different political parties locally represented. The changemakers made sure to prevent any misinformation that attendees may have as well as direct them to official links regarding the activity occurring at European Office level. On the other hand, many people from older generations were convinced of their voting decisions, however they often had a more local view rather than a European level one of democratic processes.

The discussions with the youth and changemakers on the stand and the area of outreach boosted public engagement in the political process and facilitated direct communication between voters. Additionally, the distribution of informational materials (and to useful online links) helped increase awareness about the EU, the European Parliament, democracy, and the significance of the European elections.
