On April 16, a special event took place in Tartu – a European Parliament simulation that brought together representatives of youth organizations from across Estonia. This project, organized in collaboration between the Estonian National Youth Council and TDM2000 Estonia as part of the “Changemakers” project to promote the European Parliament elections, offered participants a unique opportunity to dive into the working world of the European Parliament and experience how this important European institution operates.
During the simulation, young people had the chance to try their hand as members of parliament, participating in various debates and discussions. The event was not only fun and engaging but also highly educational, providing participants with a deeper understanding of the working processes and role of the European Parliament. Participants formed factions, elected committee members, and discussed draft laws. This practical approach helped young people better understand the challenges and opportunities associated with parliamentary work. It also gave them insight into how democratic processes function and their significance in European Union politics. Representatives of youth organizations rated the simulation very positively. Many highlighted that the event opened their eyes to the workings of the European Parliament and gave them greater motivation to participate in future European Parliament elections.
Additionally, there were many interesting discussions that brought out different perspectives and ideas about Europe’s future. Such simulations are excellent tools for raising young people’s political awareness and interest. They not only teach practical skills and knowledge but also create a space for young people to communicate and exchange ideas. The European Parliament simulation held in Tartu was a great example of how to engage and inspire youth.
In summary, the Tartu simulation project was very successful, providing participants with a memorable and educational experience. Hopefully, such initiatives will continue and contribute to the development of an active and informed young generation that values and participates in European democratic processes.
