Volunteers from the “Changemakers for European Democracy” project were engaged at a high school in Nitra during the months of September and November, where they offered students significant insight into the functioning and institutions of the European Union through interactive presentations, emphasizing the importance of engaging in the process of European democracy with a focus on the significance of their individual participation.
During the presentations, the changemakers explained to students the length of the electoral term, specified the number of members of the European Parliament, highlighted the responsibilities of individual institutions, illustrated the differences between the European Council and the Council of the European Union, and much more. They also acquainted students with certain facts, such as the participation of citizens of the European Union in the last elections being only 50.66%, with only 22.74% of possible voters participating in Slovakia. Using applications such as Slido, Kahoot, and other interactive games, such as finding twelve differences between states that are and are not part of the EU, they managed to maintain the full attention of students and enrich their perspective on the membership and integration of the Slovak Republic in the European Union.
Finally, they introduced the students to the innovative online platform Together.eu, which serves as a centre for civic engagement and collaboration. It provides individuals, organizations, and communities with space for interaction, exchange of ideas, and advocacy for positive changes in Europe.
